"Peace for us means the destruction of Israel. We are preparing for an all-out war, a war which will last for generations." Yasser Arafat sugestive question What is Israel was made somewhere else like Madagascar? summary Post world war II 1948 the Levant was given to the Nation of Israel. This sparked a century of conflict. For this land was Palestinian and the Palestinians were not consulted about there land being given away to the jewish people. The first major conflict between Israel and Egypt was when Israel helped the French and English take the Suez Canal back from Egpyt. Egypts new leader Nassar had taken the Suez Canal which had perviously been own by English and French companies. This angers the US because it makes the West look bad comparied the the Soviets. Canada solves the Suez Canal crisis with the invention of peace keepers, but peace does not last a few years later the 6 day war happens. Egypt collects all the Arab nations to "run the jews into the sea". Before they can attack the US and USSR sit down with both parties to try to make a peace agreement. While they do that the Israelis attack Egypt and bomb there air fields taking 95% of there air force in 6 hours. Israel dominates the 6 day war. Taking the Sinai Peninsula, Gaza strip West bank and Golan Heights. The Arab world is extremely embarrassed. As a result of the military occupation of the new land. The PLO is formed and a new form is war is created "terrorism", An urban gorilla warfare. The PLO hijacked plans and attacked the olympics in Munich. In 1970 Nasser the pervious leader of Egypt dies in order to look strong the new leader Anwar Sadat organize an attack with Syria. They attack Israel on the jewish holiday of Yom Kippur. This starts the "Yom Kippur War". The Arabs take back land and it looks like Israel will lose but the US does not want another slaughter of jews so the US emergency funds Israel with weapons and money. Israel takes control and wins the war again. This then bring us to OPEC. OPEC is the Organization of Petroleum export countries aka mostly the middle east. The Middle East blames the US for their loss of the "Yom Kippur war" so they declare economic war on the US. This hugely back fires on OPEC because the US just looks else where for its oil they trade with the USSR and find oil in Alaska and the gulf of Mexico. This then brings us to Iran who economy is gone because there number one customer of oil is not buying it any more. This is around the time of the rise of Islamic fundamentalists in Iran lead by Ayatollah Khomeini. Khomeini revolts agents the Iran king Shah and he is banished to the US where he dies of cancer. Ayatollah says america is the "Great Satan" and holds American people hostage. Back in Egypt Sadat agrees to go to Israel to discuss terms after the Yom Kippur War and as seen as a trator from the Arabic world for recognizing Israel as a legitimate state. Essay blog “Criticizing Israel is not anti-Semitic, and saying so is vile. But singling out Israel for opprobrium and international sanction out of all proportion to any other party in the Middle East is anti-Semitic, and not saying so is dishonest.” ― Thomas L. Friedman Consider the quote by Thomas Friedman. To what extent are the problems in the Middle East a product of anti-Semitism, and to what extent are they a product of Nationalism? The problems in the Middle East surrounding Israel are not anti-semitic based. They are based on the fact that Israel has been at war with most of the middle east since its existence. The Arab nations are nationalist and prideful of their countries. Which is not a bad thing ,however there nations have been at war with Israel for a long time and Israel has hurt their nations after a time they may grow to hate Israel and become anti-semitic. Groups like ISIS and Al qaeda are anti-semitic for they are not nationalistic to a nation and still hate Israel. The Arabic nations do not hate Israel because they are anti-semitic but because the people of the Arabic are nationalist to their own country which hates Israel so part of being nationalist is hating Israel for Israel has hurt their countries. Firstly, the people in the middle east are extremely nationalistic and proud of their countries. Which again is not a bad thing, but it affects their political opinions. The governments of the arab nations and Israel have a long and bloody history and to the Arab world Israel is seen as the bad guy, and for good reason. Israel's existence is an insult to the Arab world. They are occupying valuable land that should be theirs. They have expanded their land to fit Jerusalem one of the holy muslim cities and more land in the Levant that the Arab people think should belong to Palestine. Countless wars have been fought between Israel and countless Arab people have died in these wars. So it is understandable that the Arab countries hate Israel, and part of being nationalist is having the same political standings as your government. That is why because the Arab people Arab people are nationalist they do not like Israel not because they are anti-semitic. Also the Arabic people have been hurt by the Israeli wars and probably know people who were killed by Israelis and that is another reason to hate Israel. However, it is a thin line between nationalism and anti-semitism when it comes to hating Israel. Most people of the Arab world hate Israel for a number of reasons. They took their land, they killed their brothers and sisters in wars and they took one of their holy cities, Jerusalem. But when does hating Israel for the countries actions become hating jews for being jews? Well many people in the Arab world probably are anti-semitic but only because of their nationalist identity. They hate Israel for many reasons then that hates boils and gets stronger and it does not take long for people under the circumstances to insult jew for being jew and make anti-semitic comments because they have only seen jews and Israel in a bad light and are enemies. Only because they grew to be anti-semitic being on the wrong side of Israeli aggression and land claims. So If Israel was somewhere else in the world lets say Madagascar just for example, the Arabs probably would not hate Israel all that much. Arabs generally hate jews because these countries are enemies with Israel and that hate gets stronger and turns to anti-semitism. Lastly some populations of the middle east hate Israel not because they are nationalist but they actually are purely anti-semitic. Groups like ISIS, Al Qaeda and the Taliban have all made statements denouncing Israel and the jewish population, but these groups are not governments or parts of a nation so can not be nationalistic. They may be proud of their cause and firm believers in what they do but they are not nationalistic. So these groups are truly anti-semitic. The middle East is a complicated place with lots of issues, many of those issues involve Israel. Not everyone that hates Israel is anti-semitic however some people are; and a lot of that anti-semitism comes from being nationalistic towards a middle Eastern nation that hates Israel like Egypt, Iran, Iraq and so on. Then there are just some radical extreme groups like ISIS and Al Qaeda that just like to hate people including jews. Bottom line, Middle Eastern nations don't like Israel then there people learn to not like then, then hate them and that can sometimes turn to anti-semitism. 3,2,1 3 Caos confusion controversy 2 What if Israel was created else where? What if at the treaty of Versailles the Arab nations draw their own boarders. 1 The never ending flame of the middle east. |
