Using the notes below, answer the following blog question on the end of communism: "To what extent did the USA win the Cold War through economics?" During the 1980s arm race the USSR was fighting with the US. The US always had more money because of there capitalist nature. So America could spend more money on incredible impossible seeming weapons. Such as missiles controlled my computers that could be guided. Or the extravagant "Star Wars" laser nuclear defence system. The USSR was left in the economic dust trying to keep up with all these very very expensive projects. The USSR was communist and could not keep up with this spending of money, for they did not make as much money as the US. So could not keep up with the spending and became bankrupt.

Using the notes below, answer the following blog question on the 60s and 70s: "List 4 detente events and describe which one you think had the most success in lessening tensions in the Cold War?" In the 1960s-50s the US and the USSR co-exsited more or less peacefully. This is arguibly because of the detente events. Detente events were event of "relaxed tension" between the US and USSR. Such as SALT I and II, nuclear non-proliferation treaty and the Helsinki accords. All of these treaties brought these nations closer and closer to end the cold war. I think that the treaty of nuclear non proliferation was the most important. Because it stopped all contries that did not have nuclear weapons from making them. Which is important to stopping nuclear war. Using the notes below, answer the following blog question on the Vietnam War: "In what ways did the USA lose the Vietnam War? Did the domino theory occur as a result? The US lost the war in Vietnam because they had to pull out. The war in Vietnam was the first ever televised war and all the american public saw the horrors of war. The people of American were confused as why they were sending 18 year old to die on foreign land. From what Americans saw it was Vietnams killing Vietnams. Why Americans were needed there the public could not make out. Therefore the public opion of the war became very very negative. No one wanted this war and no one wanted to get drafted. The American Government was then forced to pull out of the war. |
